Getting Started with the Spark Mobile App

Ready to get started with the Spark mobile app? Follow the steps below to download the app, log in to your account, and start using it to stay connected with your school. School administrators can also learn how to invite guardians and staff and send app notifications through Spark.

Download the App

The Spark mobile app is available for both Apple and Android devices.

You can also find the app by searching for Spark Your School in your device's app store.

Log In to the App

Once you've downloaded the app, open it and log in using your regular Spark username and password. You don't need to create a separate account.

Invite Guardians and Staff

You can invite guardians and staff to download the app directly from your Spark platform.

  1. Go to Comms → App Invites.
  2. Find the guardian or staff member you'd like to invite.
  3. Send them an email invitation to use the app.

You can invite any guardian or staff member who has portal access to your school in Spark.

Using the App

The first version of the Spark mobile app, released in October 2026, focuses on communication between school staff and guardians.

There are two ways to communicate through Spark: Chat and Messages. You can send and receive both types of messages through your web-based Spark platform or the mobile app.

Chat

Chat lets you have one-on-one conversations with individuals in your school.

  • From your Spark platform: Select Chat in the left menu, find the person you'd like to contact, and send your message.
  • From the mobile app: Open the app and go to the Chat screen to start or continue a conversation.

Staff, guardians, and students can all use Chat, unless your school has disabled it for guardians and/or students.

Note: You can send chat messages to students, but students will receive them through their web-based Spark portal. A mobile app for students is not currently available.

Messages

Messages lets you send communications to groups of people, making it useful for school-wide or classroom announcements. When creating a message, you can choose whether recipients can reply by turning the conversation on or off. You can also attach photos and documents.

  • From your staff portal: Select Messages in the left menu, just below Chat. You can also access Messages from the Messages tab within a classroom. Find an existing group or create a new one to get started.
  • From the mobile app: Open the app and go to the Messages screen to view and participate in existing group conversations. To create a new group message, you'll need to use the web-based Spark platform.

Guardians can also access Messages through their Spark portal. They can receive and respond to messages from staff when replies are enabled, but they cannot create new messages themselves.
