About SMS Consents

By law, SMS consent is required before a text message can be sent to any phone number.

You can view and manage all SMS consents from the SMS → Consents page.

  • See which individuals already have a consent on file.
  • Send consent requests to those who have not yet provided one.

Once a phone number has a valid consent on file, it will become available for use in the SMS Center, and you’ll be able to send text messages to that number.

Collecting SMS Consents

You can collect consents in two ways:

  1. Through an Enrollment Application
  2. By sending a Direct Email Request

Option 1: Collect Consents via Enrollment Application

  1. Navigate to your Enrollment Program.
  2. Go to the Application Questions tab.
  3. Scroll to the Student or Guardian section. Ensure the Phone Number field is toggled on.
  4. Check the box labeled Request SMS Consent next to the phone number field.
  5. Click Save.

Once the application is submitted, you can onboard the student and guardian directly from the application. Their SMS consent will automatically be recorded in their profile, and their phone number will be selectable in the SMS Center.

Option 2: Collect Consents via Direct Email Request

  1. Navigate to SMS → Consents.
  2. Use the filter to view Guardians, Contacts, Staff, or Students. A green checkmark indicates consent is already on file.
  3. If no consent is on file, click Request to send an email requesting consent. You can customize the email before sending.
  4. If the Request button is not available, that person’s profile is missing an email and/or phone number.
    • Click the link under their name (“Add email to send consent request”).
    • This will take you to their profile. Add the missing information and click Save.
    • You can then return to the Consents page to send the request, or send the consent email directly from the profile.
