Spark Users & Roles
In this guide, you will learn
- What a Spark user is and how to manage your user settings
- The roles Spark users can have in your Spark school
Spark Users
A Spark user is an independent entity who has access to a portal via their unique username and password.
- A single user can manage multiple schools, and can have diverse roles within schools (ie, owner, staff, guardian, or student).
- Users can customize their profile settings, including name, password, and profile picture.
- Users can also access a record of their form submissions.

Managing your Spark User Settings
You can view and edit your Spark User information, including your photo, name, login email, and password.
To do so,
- Log in with your current login credentials.
- In your Spark platform, click on the school's logo at the top of the left navigation bar.
- Click Spark User in the dropdown menu.
- You will enter your user profile section.
If your account is connected to more than one Spark school, you’ll see a list of those schools when you first log in. From this page, you can access your user settings by clicking My Spark User.
In your user settings, you can update your profile picture, name, and email address. To change your password, open the Password section. For security, changing your email or password will require entering a verification code sent to your email.
Roles
Spark offers several user roles, each with specific access and capabilities:
- Owners: Each school can have only one owner who has full control over the school. To transfer ownership, the new owner must be a staff member and Spark user. Contact the Spark team to request a transfer.
- Staff: Initially, all staff can see and edit anything in the school, but this can be modified to limit their access. Staff members who have full access are considered Admin. Staff members who are teachers can be given access to their classrooms only, where they can manage students, assignments, and other learning features. Access levels for staff can be customized according to their role in the school.
- Guardians: Guardians are linked to their guardian portal, allowing them to view their students' assignments, pay invoices, view announcements, and communicate with teachers and students. Guardians cannot create, edit, or submit assignments.
- Students: Students access assignments, chat with teachers, and submit work via their portal. They can have either school-managed or independent accounts.
Staff, Students, and Guardians can be linked to their portals through profile settings, with invitations sent via email or username.
