About the Program
Peak Learning Academy is a WASC-accredited private school designed as a sanctuary for spirited, hands-on learners in grades 2 through 8. We move away from the traditional "factory model" of education to provide a relationship-first environment where children are celebrated for their individuality rather than managed for their compliance.
Our Pillars of Excellence
Accredited Academic Rigor
As a WASC-accredited institution, we maintain high standards of educational quality. Our blended curriculum utilizes iReady to track and ensure that every student achieves at least one full grade level of progress annually, while our small class sizes allow for truly individualized instruction tailored to each child's pace.
The "Recess-First" Methodology
We believe that emotional regulation is the prerequisite for academic success. By leading with outdoor movement and play, we ensure students transition into their work blocks with a calm nervous system and a ready mind. We prioritize "connection before correction," fostering a safe space where students feel seen and supported.
Student Agency and Real-World Grit
Our program empowers students to take ownership of their day. From choosing their focus during Core Work Blocks to participating in our School Economy, students learn the value of responsibility and stewardship. Through our signature "Survival Quests" and project-based learning, we build the resilience and problem-solving skills necessary for life beyond the classroom.
An ESA-Supported Community
We are proud to be an approved Arizona ESA provider. We partner closely with our families to navigate the scholarship process, ensuring that a high-quality, specialized education is accessible to those who need a different path for their children.
A Typical Day at Peak
We believe a great day starts with ease and joy. There are no rushed mornings or high-stress transitions here.
Regulation First: The Power of Play
Every morning begins with outdoor recess and free play. This allows students to regulate their nervous systems and transition into the school environment at their own pace. We want our learners arriving relaxed, happy, and truly ready to engage.
The Core Work Blocks: Mastery and Agency
Our mornings are divided into two Core Work Blocks focusing on the essentials: Math, Grammar, Writing, and Spelling. During these blocks, students are empowered with the flexibility to choose their focus while working toward clearly defined daily goals. This approach builds self-reliance and ensures that every student makes at least one full grade level of academic progress by the end of the year.
Connection and Community
Between work blocks, we gather for our Morning Meeting. This is a dedicated time to share school updates, celebrate individual and group wins, and foster the deep connections that make our community strong.
Afternoon Exploration: Project-Based Learning
Our afternoons shift into hands-on, Project-Based Learning (PBL). From Survival Quests and STEM challenges to baking and art, these sessions spark creativity, collaboration, and real-world discovery.
Our Philosophy
Connection Before Correction
We believe that no meaningful learning can occur without a foundation of safety and trust. At Peak, we prioritize building deep relationships with our students. By seeing the child before the student, we create an environment where they feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and be their authentic selves.
Stewardship and Responsibility
Our school operates as a community where every student plays a vital role. Through our School Economy and classroom agreements, we teach children that they are stewards of their environment and their own education. We empower them to take ownership of their choices, their space, and their academic growth.
Cultivating Grit and Resilience
True confidence is earned through overcoming challenges. Whether navigating a "Survival Quest" outdoors or mastering a difficult math concept, we encourage our students to embrace the struggle. We view mistakes not as failures, but as essential data points on the path to mastery.
Self-Directed Mastery
We respect the natural curiosity of the child. By providing blocks of time where students choose their focus and set their own goals, we foster intrinsic motivation. Our role is to provide the high-level academic framework and accreditation standards while allowing the child’s agency to drive the engine of their learning.
